Emotional wavelength

I was assigned a 1:1 monitoring of a patient who had a history of confusion and agitation to the point of being a code white. This meant that for my whole shift, I watched this one patient. He was a very pleasant man with me. He had his moments of disorientation, but overall he was very kind. He even told me that if he was 100 years younger, he would court me lol (he ain't even 100).

While conversing, he would sometimes lift his index finger and start swaying it from side to side as he got teary. His son described it as a gesture to show that his father was experiencing an "emotional wavelength." The patient couldn't explain why it happened, but I guess his emotions outwardly appeared as he got lost in his thoughts.

I think this happens to me sometimes. Getting lost in thought to the point of breaking down and crying. Occasionally unable to explain my emotions, or unwilling to face reality. Wanting to choose and knowing the answer but too afraid for change.
